Respiration is controlled release of energy from organic compounds in cells to form ATP.
•Burning wood is rapid oxidation and uncontrolled;
•In cells energy release is done in incremental steps so that at each step the energy can be used to power another reaction or captured in energy-rich molecules like ATP
